Places for People visit some our Care and Support schemes

Last week, we gave four of our PfP colleagues a whistle stop tour of our schemes.  Christine Candlish, Caroline Terry, Kathryn Evans and Sharon Buchanan met our YPS team for quick breakfast and viewed flats at Green Yard, Gough Street, Doughty Street and Pratt Street.

We then headed off to our mental health service at Bayham Street. We were met by Marieanne and St Mungo’s manager John O’Grady, who shared positive stories about resident engagement, showed exhibits from their art club, (recently funded through a PfP grant) and met two of our residents.

We added in a visit to Ashton Court, before lunch,  to see an example of remodelling retirement schemes to future proof for our aging population.  They were impressed with the Camden Mews houses and the quality of the redeveloped and the finish (and décor!) of our communal spaces, laundry room and guest suite.  They also got to meet Eileen in Flat 24 who was happy to show them her 1 bedroom flat with balcony overlooking the communal garden.

After a lunchtime stroll and food in Camden Town, they joined the team and I at Speedwell Court (CQC registered service), supported housing scheme for adults with autism, met by Joy-Margaret, followed by a visit to meet Stephen, a resident since 2013.

Melanie and Pam were on site with Amba-Rae for a tour of Speedwell House where they met Tanya (64) a resident that moved on from our Enfield Single Housing service into Retirement housing and Edna (90) who showed us all it’s never too late to learn a new skill.  Edna is 90 and this year picked up a hook for the first time and learned to crochet.

One of my takeaways was a comment made by the group, that they too should try and achieve more movement between stock, to meet the changing needs of residents.
