Hope not hate: A view on the riots going on across the country

News

|

We at Origin utterly condemn the racist thuggery, intimidation and extreme violence we have seen across the country in recent days. We have witnessed horrifying scenes of organised violent assaults on people of colour, their homes and businesses. This is an attack on all of us.

These incidents should not be characterised as protests and demonstrations. They are criminal riots and it is sickening and shameful that the shocking murder of children in Southport has been used as an excuse to whip up racist abuse and violently attack communities.

We hope for swift action to bring the perpetrators to justice and for self-reflection by those political leaders and some sections of the press who have legitimised the intolerance and hatred that fuels these people.

As a diverse and inclusive organisation, we stand with all our communities and for hope not hate.

Hate crime should be reported to the police in the first instance, but if you have been directly affected please talk to us. We have a zero-tolerance policy towards hate crime and hate-related incidents (read more here Hate crime and harassment ).  We can help by referring you to support agencies, taking steps to make you feel more secure at home or even taking legal action against the perpetrator.

You can report incidents to us by calling our customer resolutions team on 0300 323 0325 , message us via WhatsApp or email us at  enquiries@originhousing.org.uk . Please include Hate Crime in the heading.
