'CONVOKER: Sound from South Camden'

The People's Museum is hosting a May Day event by local artist Hannah Sawtell. 'CONVOKER' on 1 May is about class and struggle, as prompted by a walk-through Somers Town and environs.

Sawtell will expand on her sound work Mayday: Radio Raum 2022, a collage of voices and sound, commenting on and responding to the meaning of the May Day workers' festival.

After a presentation, Sawtell will lead a discussion of how working-class people and movements for change are represented today, in the midst of widespread strikes.
The event includes a video interview RMT leader Mick Lynch

Participants
Professor Esther Leslie - Academic
Mick Lynch - RMT Union General Secretary (video contribution)
Emily Pope - Artist and Director of Montez Press Radio
Hannah Sawtell - Artist

The People's Museum is looking for contributors to 'Somers Town Stories'

If you grew up or live in the Sidney Street estate, or any of the 'saints' flats, The People's Museum would love to hear your stories.

Your stories could help make a heritage trail about the estates – The People's Museum is working with editcollective, an all female architecture group to create a new artwork for Somers Town.

To get involved or hear more about 'Somers Town Stories', message The People's Museum on social media, come to the museum Wednesday to Saturday or contact Diana at diana@aspaceforus.club.

Memory Cafe on Thursdays

All welcome to share memories over tea and biscuits - or see the collection of local photos between 11.30am - 1pm. The museum is also open from 11am Wednesday, Thursday, Fridays and Saturdays.

Creative writing club

Creative writing club for children age 11 – 15 starts after school holidays on 19 April on Wednesday between 4 – 5pm.

Save our art

Sculptor Gilbert Bayes’ work was truly ‘art in everyday life’ – making St Pancras Housing ‘fairytale estates’.
Tragically over 80 of these beautiful 1930s ceramics have disappeared – selling at auctions, but you can now help restore some of them. Read more here.
