Announcing the winners of our community fund

08/10/2020

This summer we launched a community fund to support our communities in London and Hertfordshire. This funding is for projects, events and activities that make a difference in our local communities.

We’re now on the second round of funding. The fund is open to resident groups, community groups and local charities. We especially encourage you to team up with your neighbours to apply and bring your community project to life! We’re delighted to announce the winners of our first round of community funding and how you can get involved in their exciting projects:

Holsworthy Square Resident Association

We’re funding this Camden-based resident group to transform their communal garden and get a bike rack installed in their communal area. Keep an eye out for the transformation pictures once their gardening project is underway in January!

Respect through Sports is a community based organisation that that focuses on the development of children and young people’s physical, mental, and social wellbeing to help them develop skills that they can build on. They aim to improve their wellbeing by engaging children in sports and "life skills" workshops.

During the October half term (26-30 October), they are hosting a Sports Mentoring camp in Wembley for children aged 7-14. The camp involves over 14 different sports throughout the week as well as first aid, cooking and leadership workshops.

Our residents’ children can attend the camp for the discounted price of £7.50 per day or £25 for the week, which is a 50% discount. Half days are also available.

Click here to see the flyer and full timetable for the sports camp.

Respect through Sports will be following the Tier 2 government rules throughout the week. To find out more about the precautions they are taking and to sign up, contact: 0753 544 2160 or info@respectthroughsports.com

Well Grounded are a Community Interest Company based in King’s Cross who train vulnerable adults for careers in the coffee industry, and empowers them to go on to access better paid and more secure employment.

We’re funding the Well Grounded’s free six-week coffee sector training programme for 12 young people (aged 18 to 24) from Camden. It will focus on the parts of the sector which have thrived during the pandemic: trading, roasting, wholesale and consumer coffee subscriptions. Following training, you will access six-month work contracts with employers on the government’s Kickstart Scheme with ongoing support and training from Well Grounded. COVID-19 health & safety procedures and social distance guidelines will be in place throughout the programme.

The programme is completely free for successful candidates and dates for the next one will be announced soon. Whilst we wait for the dates to be confirmed, we can refer you to the programme so you will be kept in contact when the next programme is taking place.

If you’d like to be referred for this programme or would like more details, please email community.development@originhousing.org.uk.

Camden United are a volunteer youth-led organisation based in Camden who believe that football should be accessible for everyone regardless of the rising costs attached to it. They are run by young people for young people, with young people involved in every single aspect of the club.

We’re funding a project delivering free training by FA qualified coaches for 15 children aged 10 to 13 and 15 young adults aged 16 to 18 whilst also allowing them to enter leagues and play matches.  Our funding will also contribute to the cost of their men’s team matches for ages 16 to 25 to make taking part in football more affordable for them. The funding will also allow the Camden United volunteers to gain qualifications that are needed to ensure they are delivering sessions to the best of their ability. With these qualifications, coaches are able to seek further paid employment opportunities which will benefit them more long term.

Details of how to join Camden United FC will be made available soon but if you’re keen to get your children involved, please email the Community Development team at community.development@originhousing.org.uk and they will forward your details to Camden United FC.
