Out and about with Carol October 24

Towards the end of October I took a stroll from Belsize Park tube station down Haverstock Hill to visit our retirement scheme Rose Bush Court. I was joined by Bob Green, a member of Origin’s Board, and we were greeted by scheme manager Louche Canham, who has recently moved into the role, together with Fatima Williams, the former scheme manager who has been promoted to a senior role in the retirement scheme team.

They had organised a coffee morning for residents so that we could meet and chat with them about their experience of living at Rose Bush Court.  The room was packed, and it was quite apparent from the good-humoured banter that there is a strong sense of community, with a good range of social activity going on and some residents active in organising events and looking after the garden.

Feedback from residents about living at Rose Bush Court and the support they get was very positive. There was some discussion about the adequacy of the communal laundry facilities and Louche said she would look into it. One resident wanted to know when the lounge furnishings would be replaced, and it was confirmed that these are on order following consultation. Another asked about when the common areas would be redecorated and the car park re surfaced (ideally with extra lighting), which I said I would find out about and let everyone know via Louche.

Two residents invited Bob and I to have a look at their flats, which whilst compact, with the help of clever storage solutions they were content with, and we were regaled with tales of celebrities who live locally!

On the way back I pointed out to Bob the Victorian converted street properties that Origin owns and manages for social rent on Haverstock Hill, newly decorated in gorgeous colours with refurbished pathways and standing proudly amongst the many expensive mansions that sit along the road. All in all, an enjoyable and worthwhile visit.
