New Young People service in Camden

Blog

|

We have been looking at innovative ways to continue to support vulnerable young people by assessing our assets to maximise their potential use.

Working alongside Camden Council, we decided to remodel existing properties in Gough Street, Camden, into a specialist service to support young people aged 16-25 who have been in local authority care.

The remodelled properties include flats and mews houses near Grays Inn Road, WC1.

The new service offers 35 modern, fully furnished rooms with access to communal areas specifically designed to serve the needs of the age group and includes a team of support workers and concierges to provide a 24 hour service.

Throughout the process our Care and Support team, with Camden Council and the team at Settle, designed a service model that encourages young people to gain independence and move on from the service after 6-12 months.

The scheme and the service are both modern and comfortable, where young people can learn new skills and how to live more independently, preparing them for the life outside the care system.

The service opened on 1 February and young people moved in gradually over a period of two months.

The feedback from our new residents so far has been great. London Borough of Camden has commented that it’s the best scheme they have.
