Key information about the recall of Hotpoint and Indesit washing machines

Due to a fire safety fault, there will be half a million UK washing machines recalled. This is because of a heating element which, in rare cases, overheats which can pose a risk of fire. The recall only affects machines manufactured under the Hotpoint and Indesit brands between 2014 and 2018. Washing machines under the Whirlpool brand are not affected.

To check if your appliance is affected, use Whirlpool’s online model checker. You can also call the free helpline number 0800 316 1442. To avoid risk, if your machine is affected, Whirlpool advises you to unplug it and to not use it until it is repaired or replaced by a trained engineer. Repairs and replacements will begin in early January 2020.
